Our Scuba With Alison group was diving Cozumel's San Francisco Wall on April 30th, 2019. We were about 70 feet deep, and preparing to go up for our 3-minute safety-stop before surfacing. All of a sudden a massive loggerhead sea turtle came cruising along. From the length of it's tail it appeared to be a mature male. This regal "ambassador of the seas" let us accompany it for a couple of dramatic minutes, and we respected the turtle's space and did not touch or interfere with it. We were all distressed to see the gash in it's carapace, most likely from a boat propeller strike. But we were happy to see it had apparently healed. Diver Fulvio ("Fulvio of the Deep") kept pace with the turtle the longest of our group, as he waved "bye bye" at the end. We felt privileged to enjoy a magic moment with this loggerhead sea turtle, and wished it a safe journey.
