Its founder Ernst Eisemann initially started to build phonographs to his own design. In 1896 he successfully defended his main patent against Edison, and won. This cleared the way for his phonograph business. The mechanics were bought in from "American Graphophone Company", and were mounted on a wooden base that seems to have been constructed in such a way as to provide a base as the original machine but plays louder than a similar "Graphophone type B Eagle" machine.
