@roots_and_jill3 years ago omg the sweats are so cute!! since the trend cycles are going by insanely quickly now (like it's crazy how within a month an item of clothing can be so "out of trend") I've started only buying items I'm still interested in after at least 3 months! I find it helps a lot with keeping my closet small and it encourages me to take better care of the items I currently own :)) hehe love ur work!!! ... 17

@joannafeng79023 years ago so mad i didn't discover your channel sooner! i'm a college student in new york city and the manhattan chinatown was hit really hard by COVID-19. i've been following Send Chinatown Love for a year now and they're working to bring chinatown businesses online and install appropriate street decorations with the goal of increasing customer traction. i've encouraged lots of my friends to participate in the events that the organization holds and i've also been able to discover some of my new favorite meals :-) ... 5

@ashleychristensen24423 years ago I love those cream sweats! Right now I work with children who have trauma related anxiety disorders. We have a special preschool that helps kiddos who are having a hard time get where they need to be to get into kindergarten! It’s a much needed service. We bus in kids from all over, including low income areas. This is where our services are needed most! Thank you for fighting the good fight for our earth! ... 1

@by.joanapeixoto3 years ago During this year I have been understanding how hard it is to live in a more simple and mindful way in a society where people don´t really reflect on their everyday actions, just because is the way that we always lived. And putting all the responsibilities in someone else and judging others instead of embracing their own mistakes and try to do their best in all areas. So I have been trying to surround my digital and real life with people who I can discuss and learn from it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it´s been a journey xx ;) ...

@AN-xj2mb3 years ago Your artist name reflects the things you do so well. Sometimes I get soaked into the bubble of fancy, minimalism-looking things on not-sustainable channels and I get tricked into thinking that buying the stuff will get me the beautiful appearance of a minimalist life. But the problem is, that it will only look like it. It is not minimal or sustainable. And you always remember me that I can by kind, minimal, sustainable, an activist, smart, vulnerable AND have the few things that matter. I try to serve as an example for my friends and family to eat plant based. Sometimes they try a plant based recipe and love it so much that they will cook it over and over again. I would love to get the sweatsuit, but I‘m on a small social media detox since years and don‘t have IG. I can only support you here on YouTube. Keep the good work going and take breaks when needed. ...

@jennynguyen54043 years ago I really appreciate that you said we're all activists! I feel like I was pretty blind to intersectionality years ago compared to where I'm at now. I am definitely not any sort of expert but I hope one day I can be as knowledgable as you are! I use to not go outside of my bubble with my opinions but I realized that I should really be standing up for the things that matter to me. If people didn't like what I had to say, we could discuss it or it could open my eyes to the people I surround myself with! I am not much of a poster on social media and I know some people are not a fan of social media activism, but I felt like it was a good way for me to start off with sharing my opinions and educating my friends and family! I started posting more on my IG stories about racism as well as sustainable practices, as some others have mentioned! Personally, it means a lot to me to if I can at least make an impact on one person. I think there's the possibility of that impact being spread to others! IG: nguyenjenny17 ...

@caitlinutt62543 years ago Lovely pieces, as usual appreciate your research and passion! My local activism has been limited lately to "my dollar," in that I have been trying to stop buying new items and to shop at local charities for second hand items, specifically one that donates all proceeds to support those fighting HIV/Aids. @venuskaur16743 years ago I love your videos <3 I really love that you bring awareness to sustainability & ethicality, it is so overlooked. What I do to do my part for activism is try to make conscious changes everyday whether that includes educating myself, spreading awareness whenever I get a chance, donating to causes that will genuinely help people in need, and supporting brands that stand by humanity. I have conversations with loved ones, or use my social media platform to talk about what is going on in the world such as currently what is happening in Cuba (they are basically being starved), the 7 month long farmers protest happening in Punjab that is still happening (the largest protest that has ever happened in this entire world), supporting Black Lives by partaking in our protests here in the USA and having really tough conversations with people about racism and generational racism that has been passed down through families, and how Palestinians are being forced out of their own homes hence becoming homeless (again) however they are being harassed, tortured, and killed too... To be honest, the list goes on... This past year has raised a lot of awareness on the harshness that has been hushed for years so whenever I get a chance I try to do my part. I agree with what you said when you mentioned that remembering all that is going on in the world can cause us anxiety but the key is to remember that feeling that way will not help us achieve what we want to achieve. I think it is most important to make small shifts within ourselves, that way we can start changing the world from the corner we are in and cause a domino effect - like you are! Oh, also, I think it is super important to vote with our dollars. I have been extremely mindful regarding where I purchase my items from, and/or look into what the items I am buying are made from (i.e. I stay away from polyester since it is essentially plastic). I have definitely learned that sustainability is an investment.
Thank you so much, keep doing what you are doing!!
    With gratitude,
    Venus
P.S. I remember you mentioning that you love the brand Girlfriend, and just wanted to let you know they are starting to ship to Canada starting tomorrow! :)

@comeplaydressup3 years ago Thank you for another series of sharing sustainable brands and also small businesses with strong core values for us to learn more about. Often you've introduced brands to me that I otherwise would not have known about. As an educator, I've been doing a lot of work at my school and formed at unofficial ABAR (anti-bias anti racist) Coalition, gathering a group of educators at our school to discuss change in our curriculum, professional development that needs to be requirements and no longer optional, and discussing how we can authentically engage students in critical conversations about the histories, events unfolding presenting, their impact, their role, and how to include students in decision-making. In the US, there is a controversial reading retention law that several states have adopted and for decades there's been an impact on English language learners, special rights children, minority students, and students from low-income backgrounds. Now there is another controversial issue emerging of Critical Race Theory being banned from teaching practices in the state where the reading retention laws started decades before. I've gathered this group of educators so that we can also make plans for how we can inform parents of these decisions being made about their children's education and the actionable steps we can all take to advocate for change, so that we aren't just blindly following along and accepting decisions being made my people that are not ever in classrooms with students. Even though this is a work-related bit of Activism, it is something that is close to my heart and deeply personal. ...

@abigailpratt70613 years ago I attend a private, sadly homophobic, university with my girlfriend. during my freshman year I worked with student senate, published an editorial for our school paper, had a viral post, and had many challenging conversations with people who refuse to see being gay as anything other than a sin. this was also the first year i was able to find therapy that i could afford and actually ended my school year by going to a mental hospital. during my recovery this summer, i feel as if i have found my life’s purpose in sustainability and have been obsessed with learning about what i can do (especially in terms of fast fashion and overfishing) and sharing it with my friends and family. it has been a hard year for me, but because of role models like you i can speak about my sexuality, mental health, and sustainability goals shamelessly. i know that i have a mission to heal our planet and therefore a reason to get out of bed. ... 2

@cynthiashi29593 years ago I engage in activism as a leading officer in my club in college by helping initiate our diversity initiatives throughout the recruitment process! We are a large club on campus with a lot of applicants, but every semester the application pool is never very diverse, so I helped the rest of the leadership team launch a series of events that offers resources and support to underserved communities on campus. @jennychu88503 years ago That cream set is so cute! I'm currently a fashion student and being someone very interested in decreasing my carbon footprint, I understand the damage the fashion industry has on the environment and the people working in these factories. In order to cut my consumption of fast fashion, I try to thrift and make my own clothes when I can. @BubblyViolin113 years ago What are your strategies for finding sustainable and ethical brands? I keep trying to find more brands to purchase from so that I have multiple options and can shop around for the best deal that I can afford, but my google searches only take me so far. I rely pretty heavily on vids like these (which are great!) but I'd love to be able to do some of the hunting on my own time as well. Would really appreciate a vid on any tips/tricks you have on finding and identifying these brands.
on the note of activism, I donate to people that do the work that I'm ill equipped to do. I do my best to participate in local programs created by local orgs. I also aggressively write and email my representatives on topics I care about, and thoroughly look up the background, actions, and platforms of election candidates.

@callmeeku43503 years ago Prefacing by saying that I use cloth bags, but all of the plastic bags and packaging from shopping that I accumulated over the YEARS get reused every time I move so that I'm not purchasing new packing materials (bubble wrap, etc). I use them to wrap all of my breakable items! It's been going on 7 years at this point. I just keep them in a box in a closet. Not something on a huge platform/scale, but I think it helps in some way. Moving materials and packaging are just so wasteful! IG: hello_thisiseku ...

@jenniferlie82483 years ago Sweatsuit giveaway yayy! One thing I've been doing recently is composting my food waste and sharing along the process in how to make compost with my friends on my Instagram so they can one day try composting and give back to mother nature. It's something so simple and fun to do that 1) reduces household waste 2) gives back to mother nature and 3) helps understand how amazingly nature works through the process. Still mind blows me to this day how food can decompose to something that smells so earthy and fresh. Gardening has been the thing I been loving to do and learn about since this pandemic and to share that with my own sphere of influence gives hope for self-sustaining practices we can do at home :) Love what you do and sharing all these ethical and sustainable clothing brands that I hope to get a hold of one day. <3
