@wubuck79قبل 6 أشهر A lot of these young people now think they can just bail or freak out anytime they feel upset or are having a difficult time and make it ok by saying the id="hidden1" class="buttons"> magic words “mental health”. I guess it’s not entirely their fault because they’re being conditioned to be this way. Even if he has real mental health issues, that does not excuse him from his responsibilities or free him from accountability. ....وسعت 21

@onewhoisaboveallقبل 6 أشهر the kid is a scammer. instead of taking responsiblity and trying to get better or find other opportunites the kid pouted and now is pulling a race card id="hidden2" class="buttons"> and mental health card for money because he couldn't hack it as a player. to plan the meeting and recording it shows his intent. the kid is a phony and pulling a pure money grab. hope judge throws this lawsuit out the door. if it goes to trial or ole miss settles then every kid who gets cut or gets demoted would sue looking for money. ....وسعت 12

Rollins, who has roommates and others who would call 911 if it was that catastrophically significant id="hidden5" class="buttons"> as a condition. Mr. Rollins and, I feel sure he's not alone, is looking for a settlement. I went to school at ole miss, a student athlete will be treated oh so fairly with any difficulty. @williamhalejr.4289قبل 6 أشهر My comment on a different video was exactly the same! Why wasn't he talking to the DC, his line coach, his position coach, his graduate assistants? id="hidden6" class="buttons"> I completely forgot about the trainers somehow, but I also mentioned when I was in college in the late 1980's, we had education staff who contacted us daily and weekly to make sure we were going to class, getting our assignments done, getting good grades, arranging tutors etc etc. They talked to us each day and reported our progress to the coaches. Was Rollins not talking to these people either? He is obligated to communicate with SOMEONE, he can't just disappear and not talk to the staff for a month! That is not going to be OK at any place or any time. ....وسعت

@66048fishn-huntinقبل 6 أشهر Can’t make any decisions off this audio by itself. What is the history of this athlete? Have the coaches had issues with him before or was this the first disciplinary problem? Had he notified them of his mental issues? 1

@Matt-cr4vvقبل 6 أشهر The way Lane was talking to him was crummy but right before the audio clip, according to the transcript of the full recording, and in the legal complaint id="hidden9" class="buttons"> from the lawsuit Rollins never told any coaches he had mental health issues prior to the meeting where he was told about his position switch. Throughout the complaint they point to injuries and events at Ole Miss that led to severe depression but that he didn’t know to seek mental health treatment because the coaches didn’t provide him with resources to inform him of mental health treatment. Also asserts that in each instance he claims led to depression that the coaches should have known that he was suffering from the ailments and referred him for treatment. But it’s notable that in the prior events that he says he didn’t get help because he wasn’t informed to know to care for his mental health but proceeds to the meeting where he’s told of the position change in which he tells Kiffin he is going to take a mental health break. And after the meeting told his mother that he was taking a mental health break and that she then called somebody in the athletics department to tell them of his mental issues and asked to have him referred to a counselor there. But the complaint never explains how in the prior events he never sought any help because he wasn’t taught about mental health to know he needed to get help from the coaches yet knew to request a mental health break at this specific meeting and his mother now knew who to call to request help for him.
Have to wonder how he didn’t know to seek treatment because the coaches didn’t explain to him but when he informed his mother after the position change she knew what to do but with the prior year of severe depression that severely hampered his ability to live a normal life he never told her or she never noticed the problems to seek help earlier? Never want to diminish what could be genuine problems but it’s hard to wrap your mind around how previously you had the issues, the coaches should have known, you didn’t know to tell them or seek any help which is their fault for not teaching you about it and for whatever reason your mom knew what to do for the position change issues but not the prior ones. Redding through the complaint most allegations center on something negative happened, it became depression, coaches should have known but didn’t, coaches should have known to refer you for mental health problems you haven’t told about and didn’t know to seek yourself because it was their fault for not teaching you that mental health treatment exists. Every aspect of the negatives were someone at the schools fault. I clearly don’t know this to be the case but the complaint made it seem like the dude may have had a pattern of feeling entitled or difficulty in accountability - namely when his defensive line coach encouraged him to transfer because if he stayed he wasn’t going to really do much besides just be there in the team and he asked how the coach could come to that conclusion when he hadn’t been given a chance to play. But he did get to play and practice over a period of time and unfortunately was hampered by injuries but that reasonse just makes you wonder how their prior interactions had been. But I can’t say that I’d have reacted the best if I interact with a player who never mentions mental health to me until he’s told his position is being switched and then ghosts all attempts made to speak with him or attend any team functions or requirements for the next three weeks. Could’ve spoken better to the kid but I imagine many people would be somewhat pissed off in the same scenario.

@bamahammer3660قبل 6 أشهر I am a retired senior military veteran and have had hundreds of military personnel work for me the same age as this Ole Miss player. Everyone is jumping id="hidden10" class="buttons"> on this player after hearing the audio tape with him and Coach Lane Kiffin. When someone is suffering from mental illness, there is no logical script in place that they will follow. Many are embarrassed to even talk with someone because they look at mental illness as a sign of weakness. But at the same time, they are fighting mentally within their own subconsious mind to simply try and function normally. Here, you have a football player during all his life has been taught by his coaches to be mentally tough and aggressive on the field. This is one of the reasons why he probably didn't come forward and talk to someone in the first place because he was trying to resolve it mentally himself and not get embarrassed. As a leader/coach, you need to always constantly evaluate your players' mental and physical aspects on a daily basis through observation. People forget that these young men are still teenagers and young adults whose mindsets are still being developed mentally. So, to throw this young man under the bus is simply wrong if you don't understand mental illness. I am a diehard Alabama fan, so I am very familiar with Coach Lane Kiffin. I have often stated that Kiffin is extremely immature as a person. His own behavior over the years has led to many SEC coaches and fans calling him immature from the laundry lists of things he has said and done over the years. That lists include as recent as this football season. I am still asking the question: When will Kiffin grow up? If you think I am blowing smoke, take a survey of SEC coaches and their staff the overall opinion will be the same. So, I am not surprised how this entire Ole Miss situation was handled in the end. ....وسعت 5

@g.p.smalley3181قبل 6 أشهر The student-athlete, who maintains a high level of academic achievement, "did" inform the Head Coach, who self-identifies as "boss," id="hidden11" class="buttons"> a term that bears resemblance to "master" within the context of this situation. Kiffin does not possess the authoritative role of a boss or master but rather assumes the position of a coach and educator. Kiffin displays a complete absence of empathy or compassion. Why would a student-athlete that he recruited just disappear? The student was experiencing emotional distress due to the loss of his grandma and physical trauma resulting in several injuries. The student-athlete was simply not ready to have a conversation with Kiffin, and this information was duly sent to Kiffin, indicating the individual's mental unpreparedness for dialogue. Given that spring practice had not yet commenced, the urgency to engage in immediate conversation was relatively insignificant when compared to the mental well-being of a student-athlete experiencing distress. ....وسعت
