Undefeated three-division champion Terence “Bud” Crawford emphatically stamped his place in the history books with a ninth-round TKO over the previously unbeaten Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era in the SHOWTIME PPV main event Saturday night from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions. “It means everything because of who I took the belts from,” said Crawford. “They talked bad about me. They said I wasn’t good enough and I couldn’t beat these welterweights. I just kept my head to the sky and kept praying to God that I would get the opportunity to show the world how great Terence Crawford is. Tonight, I believe I showed how great I am.” “He was just better tonight,” said Spence. “He was using the jab. My timing was a little bit off. He was just the better man tonight.” In addition to adding the WBC, WBA and IBF titles to his WBO belt, Crawford became the first male fighter to become an undisputed champion in two weight classes, having previously won all four belts at 140-pounds. In a fight where Spence had already been down three times, Crawford’s ninth round onslaught of hooks forced referee Harvey Dock to wave off the action 2:32 in the frame. After years of build-up, Spence came out aggressively in the opening round, jabbing and attacking Crawford’s body. Crawford, who is known for fighting from both the southpaw and orthodox stances, fought primarily as a southpaw and scored his first knockdown in round two with a powerful right cross that caught Spence off balance and sent him down for the first time in his career. “We practice that,” said Crawford. “Normally in camp we do a flick and jab. But we knew that wasn’t going to work with Errol Spence because he’s durable, he’s strong. So we had to practice a strong firm jab. The jab hit him and stopped him in his tracks.” “He was just throwing the hard jab,” said Spence. “He was timing with his jab. His timing was just on point. I wasn’t surprised by his speed or his accuracy. It was everything I thought.” Spence came out in round three determined to turn the tide after the knockdown, throwing big shots, including a left hook that landed cleanly early. However, Crawford was able to withstand the attack and showed his precision by landing a clean counter right that again staggered Spence. “Errol Spence is a tremendous talent and he’s got a great jab,” said Crawford. “We were worried about the jab coming in because that’s how he sets up all of his shots. Our main focus was the jab. You take away his best attribute. The rest is history.” In round seven, Crawford dropped Spence twice, once with a clean right uppercut early on and again late in the round with a right hook. Crawford led 79-70 on all three cards at the time of the stoppage and dominated the CompuBox stats with an 185 to 96 advantage in punches landed and an astounding 50% connect rate. Post-fight, Crawford showed his respect for Spence stepping up to the plate and making the super fight happen and spoke to the historic nature of the matchup, while Spence expressed his interest in a rematch later this year. “We gotta do it again,” said Spence. “I’m going to be a lot better. It’ll be a lot closer. It’ll probably be in December and the end of the year. I say we gotta do it again.” “Like I said before, I only dreamed of being a world champion,” said Crawford. “I’m an overachiever. Nobody believed in me when I was coming up, but I made everybody a believer. I want to thank Spence and his team because without him none of this would have been possible.” #TerenceCrawford #ErrolSpenceJr #SpenceCrawford Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for more info. @trippyton59829 months ago Bud’s reaction before the second knockdown was insane. Spence landed a solid left but Bud proceeded to deliver the knockdown punch. Instead of covering up, he went ahead and took another punch. Impeccable split-second decision making right there. 💯 ... 87

@TheTruth-pl3mk9 months ago Crawford proved that he's one of the greats of all-time. This was his career-defining fight and he got the job done in superb style against a dangerous opponent in Spence. We can't ask for much more than that. I'd put Crawford up against any Welterweight in boxing history and it's at least an even matchup. Nobody's a big favourite against him. ... 100

@aspromonte51799 months ago That was one of the best performances I've seen in a long time. Crawford barely left any openings, was moving extremely well, was hitting the bullseye with almost every punch, and had ice in his veins the whole fight. • @
@Aykay_9 months ago If you haven’t watched the full fight WATCH IT! .. This was truly a master class of a performance from Crawford … its as close to a punch perfect performance i’ve seen in 20 plus years of boxing … Crawfords offence and counters , to his defence was immaculate! Just look at his face it doesn’t have a mark on it! … he made an elite world champion like Spence look like a amateur. He schooled him … i thought this was a 50/50 fight but what Bud did was truly exceptional and it didnt look like he got out of second gear … Spence has the heart of a champion he wasnt coming out of there until Crawford put his lights out … the referee got him out of there at exactly the right time ... 351

@noelkevinsiason66319 months ago Boxing is a beautiful yet brutal sport. Bud's performance is probably the best I have ever seen. Perfect. Flawless. Powerful. 64
  • @
@octofish9 months ago Had it wrong here. Completely. Thinking Bud wouldn't know what to do with Spence, this was the exact other way around. Errol always did block shots with his face, the defense sort of suffering in that way. The boxing, ring generalship, defense, ring IQ, power and speed was quite the display of utter domination. Look at Crawford's eyes in the slomo shots in the later rounds. Total confidence. Spence didn't have a chance in there. Seemingly it took 3 rounds for Bud to get the pattern figured out. Then it began. Damn. The exact science of dismantling a professional dismantler. No need for judges. Cannot stand when those morons get involved. This was excellent. Good to see when 2 at the top of their game find out just who is better. Amazing this happened. Most simply avoid each other. Threatening each other on social media seems to be its own sport. ... 592

@MURKGOAT8607 months ago Them combos were concussive. Fans clamoring for a rematch didn't feel what Spence did 8

  • @
@dunamisfire64309 months ago It's the dominance of Bud that sets him apart. He's truly special. He made a great, great champion look ordinary. What a fight! 75
  • @
@terra28059 months ago Crawford was having none of that bullying style that Spence likes to employ, pushing his opponents back and letting go with shots. Once Spence had to fight off the back foot it was over. That's not Spences game at all. Crawford is just the better fighter. He had the advantage everywhere. Speed, power, reactions, timing, you name it.
Spence is a great fighter but he's pretty one dimensional compared to Crawford. Spence came up against an opponent that he couldn't bully and push around forcing him to fight out of his comfort zone.
Crawford is the real deal. No doubt.

@gatormark9 months ago What I find interesting about this fight is that people were going crazy about the matchup. Which, in this day and age is expected because how often do you see two beasts fight each other in their prime these days.
However, in my day, in the 80s, BEASTS in their prime were fighting each other all of the time. All of the time. I miss the 80s!! I just have a different perspective being old.
