Riles makes a certain face when he's hungry for soup. I call it his munchie cat face. On this day, he awoke from a nap with this face on so I went to prepare his food right away. He's a patient cat and will wait for me while I turn his canned prescription wet cat food into the soupy consistency he enjoys with the supplements he requires. Usually, he'll sit up with whiskers wiggling, intent while waiting. Today, he was still a bit sleepy. I bring him little dishes of soup. He doesn't like it if the dish is too full. This picky senior cat won't eat as much if I give it to him all at once. So I refill the dish as often as he licks them clean. When Riles is done eating, he'll just walk away. Several times a day, this cat will jump into the bathtub for a drink. He prefers drinking directly from the faucet. Even though he has three other water dish locations. One of these even has two dishes (don't ask, he requires both of them). Even with all these different water sources, he will still want to drink from your water cup if he sees you with a fresh glass. Riles jumped on the coffee table to drink from my big water cup. I had a little one on the table already for him but he wanted mine. Oh well. By the way, we celebrated Riles' 16th birthday on November 6th! I think he's healthier now than he was a year ago. Here's to many more healthy, active senior cat years! Thanks for reading and watching! *NOTE* Although we like to share, every cat is different. Please consult your veterinarian and don't take our opinion over a cat care professional. ---About Riles--- Riles is our 16 year old rescue cat. We adopted him from the wonderful Calgary Humane Society in December 2018 to live here in his all-inclusive, tres exclusive kitty retirement home. So exclusive that it's just for him. One cat, two "staff members". ---About Us--- We're just two humans doing our best. Mary films and edits the videos. ---Riles & Senior Cat Health--- At the Humane Society, he was diagnosed with FIC and received dental surgery. His life-long conditions mean he will be on prescription food and require a bit extra dental attention. Shortly after we brought him home, we also discovered he has arthritis (not unexpected for his old age) and he is completely deaf. And like many older cats, he needs a little help in the poop department. None of these health issues would deter us from adopting this lovable sweet boy old-man cat. The food is more expensive but we can manage it. He gets a regular injection which is very affordable for his arthritis. His poop issues are managed cheaply and easily with a little safe stool softener from the drug store. And he can communicate just fine without needing to hear us. If you're interested in adopting a cat, please talk to your local Humane Society or other cat rescue about adopting older kitties. They are awesome and might be the perfect fit for your home and lifestyle! ---- SHOP RILES' STUFF*--- CAT HARNESS: https://amzn.to/34fPXw6 KONG ZOOM GROOM (soft brush): https://amzn.to/2E2RCL4 HURRISE PET DRINKING FOUNTAIN: https://amzn.to/2HeYsz9 *Some links are affiliate links.
