The African Civet an amazing daylight sighting of this elusive wild animal in Kruger National Park close to Nyamundwa Dam on the S1 Doispan Road 9 km away from Phabeni Gate. When we arrived at the sighting the Civet was looking around and stop to feed and the Sycamore Fig Tree's fruit. Suddenly we noticed that the Crest of long black hair on his back raised. If an African civet feels threatened, it raises its dorsal crest to make itself look larger and thus more formidable and dangerous to attack. There was no real threat to the animal, that we could see, but maybe it was just because the animal was watched by us but it soon relaxed and went on with its feeding on the fruit of the Sycamore Tree fruit. The omnivorous diet includes carrion, rodents, birds, eggs, reptiles, frogs, crabs, insects, fruits, and other vegetation. This nocturnal animal is most active about an hour or so after dark when they search for insects, mice, reptiles, frogs, birds and they would even scavenge and eat fruit as seen in the video. Special guests for the day was Chaytum Pappin and Armand Bekker. Book a full day safari with us from Hazyview and come and explore the amazing wildlife of Kruger National Park in South Africa.
