The Horniman has a weekly music performances on Thursday afternoons called Hear it Live! which usually takes place in the Music Gallery. These are free, live sessions. The musicians have been working with Horniman staff to create informal musical recordings, playing a piece of their own choosing and using one of four expertly restored and maintained early keyboard instruments. The instruments are: the Neapolitan virginals by Onofrio Guarracino, 1668; the square piano by Adam Beyer, London, 1777; the English chamber organ, attributed to Joseph Beloudy, London, c.1800; and the double-manual harpsichord by Jacob Kirckman, London, 1772. We hope that, with the hum of visitors in the background, you will feel that you are experiencing the Music Gallery first-hand, with your friends and family. And, what’s more, that you are being welcomed by live music! (Please note, these performances took place prior to the Horniman closure, following the lockdown). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ https://www.horniman.ac.uk The Horniman Museum and Gardens is an inspiring, surprising, family-friendly, free attraction in South London’s Forest Hill. We’ve been open since Victorian times, when Frederick John Horniman first opened his house and extraordinary collection of objects to visitors. Since then, our collection has grown tenfold and includes internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as an acclaimed aquarium, Butterfly House and natural history collection. Unusually for such an important museum, you can see our collection up-close and face-to-face. You can even pick up, try on and play with some of our objects.
