Writing a Research Project Written By Instructor Doctor Ibrahim Talaat Ibrahim This lecture is dedicated to fourth grade students/ Department of Translation and other languages in Iraq. Writing a research is defined as the first step towards developing the academic level of students and preparing them for Postgraduate programs. The first point of carrying out a research project is to have a topic. Besides, the topic in question is either presented by the student or given by the professor concerned and presenting a hypothesis or a question of the research. The second step is to present an outline of the research; it includes the theoretical and practical parts and the headings and sub-headings of the contents. The third step is about collecting references, books, articles and so on. The fourth step is dedicated to reading the references, books selected by the students and to take all the relevant topics in the body of books and reference into account. The fifth step is about documenting the subjects and ideas that the students in question take from the references and books and adding them in the research project. And there are three main methods of documenting the references, they are as follows: Direct Quotation: taking the points in the references or books or articles directly and adding them in the research with the employment of inverted commas. Besides the internal documentation of references is as follows: (Second Author's Name, Year of Publication: Page Number). It is worth noting the author's documentation is applied to other types of documentation mentioned below. Paraphrasing: Rewriting the points and ideas with the students own words. Understanding: Reading the whole article or chapter and then writing a summary about the topic. Besides, the documentation of the internal reference is as follows: (See Second Author's Name, Year of Publication: Page Number). The sixth step is arranging the contents of the theoretical part of the research depending on what have been presented above. The seventh step is writing the practical part that must embrace methods, strategies and a model of assessment or analysis. The eighth step is presenting a conclusion and it should answer the question or verify the hypothesis of the research. The ninth step is preparing the abstract of the research which embraces the definition of the research, the nature of the study, the hypothesis or question and the verification of the hypothesis or answer of the question. The tenth step is preparing the list of bibliography or references that must be arranged in APA Style. Moreover, websites can be documented as follows: mentioning the link of the website and the time of the retrieval such as http://www.ibrahimalbayati.blogspot.com retrieved on Friday 21-2-2020 internally and in the list of bibliography as well. * AL-Bayati, Ibrahim (2019). The eleventh step is adding the final touches on the research project such as writing a table of contents, dedication, and letter of acknowledgment, list of abbreviations and list of figures. Besides all the pages mentioned above must be added at the beginning of the research and their page number should be roman like: (I, II, III…etc.).
