@Kingepticon3 years ago I went back and forth for a month deciding whether to get the C1, G1 or A80J. I decided that picture quality was by far the most important criteria for me. Everything else was a distant second. I wanted the best picture out of the box because I wasn't going to pay someone to calibrate my set.
Despite being a heavy gamer who owns all the consoles, I decided to go with the A80J because of Sony's superior XR processor. I've had the TV for a few weeks now and I still get a big ass grin on my face every time I turn it own.

@WARDofLORE2 years ago Broke the screen on my 55" Panasonic Plasma during a move. I was devastated.
Picked the A80 as one of the finalists as a replacement. Informative Videos like these reaffirmed my decision to buy it.
The A80K is out but the A80J is currently $400cdn less.
    What an incredible TV.

@joeychm3 years ago Great review. I have seen many in my research to find the right TV for a room that gets a fair amount of light. The A80CJ (Costco) leaves me amazed every time I see high definition, especially HDR, content. Thanks for the review with a tremendous amount of useful information. ... 6

@mgaming73 years ago after calibration, this is the best Value on the market. The A90J is too expensive (imo) and the A80J picture is stunning. I smile every single time I watch anything on my A80J. Love it. 13

@sheshechic3 years ago Thank you Vincent. It seems that the time has finally come for me to switch to OLED, but still I'm anxiously awaiting your review of the X90J. My next panel will be replacing a ST60 and I know it's expected for people to move to OLED from plasma, but there are issues I needed resolved first. I currently have a Sony 900E in my office and it is wonderful. So... I'm left waiting on you, since I'm not a huge Rtings fan. lol ... 1

@rkgsd2 years ago I'm not much of a game player, but I went with the LG C1 due to it being VRR ready BEFORE release, the completely glossy screen and having 4 HDMI 2.1 ports. I have no complaints about the video quality of YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. I did make sure color temp was set to warm up 50. ... 2

@TheoriginalChuckJ2 years ago Thanks for your video, very informative. I just bought this TV "listed as brand new" on the weekend here in Toronto Canada. But I would like to ask somethings that I am confused about.
First, after watching yours and other unboxing videos on You-tube I noticed that Sony TV boxes mostly had 2 nylon straps around the cardboard box that needed to be off. My TV box did not have these two nylon straps.
Second, in the unboxing videos I watched including yours I noticed 2 cardboard releases at the bottom of the box that are designed to allow you to pull the box straight up and off the TV. My A80J box did not have these releases at the bottom of the box. I had to cut away the box and lift the TV itself out of the bottom of the box.
Lastly, I noticed that in some videos there were two label stickers on the TV screen to peel off. My TV only had one sticker label, the yellow energy guide sticker.
As you have likely figured out now, I am concerned that I got tricked into buying a refurbished TV.
If this were true, it would be shocking as the retailer I bought this TV from has been in business for 65 years and has been an official certified Sony dealer for most of that time.
My question is, since these TV's are built in different regions is it possible that my issues are simply a variation in packaging standards.
The TV does look great and seems to work fine, but I would still feel cheated if I have been sold a refurbished TV rather than a new one.
If you can shine any light on my issue that would be great.
    Thanks..........

@greeneye59773 years ago My 2020 Sony A8H ethernet port recently stopped working after a bad storm. The wifi still worked though. I put in a warranty service repair and they ended up breaking the tv completely. Sony is now sending me a 2021 A80J as a replacement. I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about it until watching this video. Thank you for putting my fears to rest. ... 1

    @gandalffantom96133 years ago Vinnie!
When you review the Panasonic Jz2000 would you consider doing a separate sound test with an external subwoofer connected!? 🙏🏼
Think it’s going to be a real dealbreaker for those who may want the Jz1500 if they own a sound bar or separates system already.
This would be the cherry on the top of a very eagerly awaited review🤞🏼

@TRADINGARMOR3 years ago I love your videos. Been watching for years. You made me dream of an OLED. I now have the A80J and it's a great display. The one thing I have a hard time deciding on is the peak luminance setting. Coming from Pioneer Elites and Sony HD CRTs, every setting but off seems kind of obnoxious to me. I can tell the display was meant to have it on though. Is there a reference to calibrate it with or is it something you just set by preference? Where did you set it during SDR calibration? I have the S&M UHD disc but I don't think there's any material to set peak luminance by. Any help would be appreciated greatly! Keep up the great work Vincent! ... 8

@beantown11123 years ago Vincent - thanks for review. Debating between 77in A80J and 77 in LG G1. While G1 is more expensive, 5 year warranty helps a bit. Love to see you do a comparison of picture. 7

@skeptical_Inquirer2003 years ago I downloaded the manuals for both the a80j and a90j and was surprised that the 65" a80j can the stand be put in narrow mode (27.25" apart) but 65" a90j can't. I keep my TVs for a long time so to presently I plan to buy either the 65" Sony x95j or Samsung QN90A on Black Friday and not an OLED, not because of price but burn-in concerns. I am worried about my playing a lot of material with black bars either at the top and bottom or right and left and from what I have read online, this over time can cause the pixels on the sides to be brighter than those in the middle because they are turned on less. From the a80j manual pg 6: The following are examples of images that
    may cause image retention:
    • Content with black bars either on the top and bottom
and/or the left and right sides of the screen. (for example,
Letterboxed, 4:3 screen, Standard definition)................To reduce the risk of image retention:
    • Fill the screen by changing [Wide mode] to eliminate the
black bars. Select [Wide mode] other than [Normal].
I am not going to distort the picture by watching material in wide mode. So I am looking to purchase a non OLED that has an ATSC 3.0 tuner. I have a minus infinity interest in gaming and in the real world, nothing is perfectly black.

@xsvforce33353 years ago I am happy to see that A80J has better near black handling as I can not tolerate the A8H's terrible near black artifacts and gamma. Once I saw the terrible near black performance of the A90J, I ordered C1 as a replacement. Good to see the A80J might be an option. ... 1

@833evad3 years ago Hi again Vincent. I'm in the group of people that doesn't like the matte coating on this TV (looking for 55"). How would you compare this TV and the G1?? For me G1 is even cheaper than a80j. 2

  • @
@TwinbeeUK3 years ago How do you not mention the peak and full-screen white window nits? In your other videos, you had a growing white window and ABL is one of the remaining weaknesses of OLED panels, so it makes extreme sense to include this metric. ... 1
  • @
@jeffreytsao3 years ago Apparently every EU-based A80J reviews I’ve seen shows Sony for some reason use the old panel for A80J, however in other markets like US & China, A80J actually has the newer EVO panel with much higher HDR10 peak brightness (my D65 calibrated 77A80J can reach 780+ Nits on 5% window, 740+ Nits on 10% window and 170+ Nits full screen), personally I think 77A80J with conventional anti-glare coating is infinitely close to A90J while being the best large-sized premium OLED TV on the market in terms of price-performance ratio. ... 4

@touch_the_sky3 years ago @HDTVTest Vincent, if you had to do this comparison by percentage, how much % would be X90J LED to the A80J OLED in image quality?
I'm trying to decide between the two, and I'm leaning towards the X90J because I will use it a lot with my computer and want to avoid image retention.
    Thank you.

@Deltax53 years ago Wondering when VRR is coming. Sony needs to get there act together.
I have my eye on the x90j. Not a OLED. But seems good for the price i want to spend without the burn in problem. I only hope they manage to put gsync/free sync in there also if they can for the x90j. Not advertised in coming thou. only a wish. Also a fix for the artifacts.
I wonder the reason not putting the new HDMI 2.1 standered for all the ports. Likewise for receivers. It's backwards capable. Do they have a stock wile of the HDMI 2.0 or something to stiff us like that.
I am Just waiting to the end of the year for the update. Then decide.

@Kishoreuvoyt3 years ago Great summary of A 80J! Thanks. Despite all the progress, these high end TVs do not support the gigabit ethernet port. The ethernet speed (not the wi-fi speed) that these TVs support, is limited to 100Mbps only. Since the ethernet connection is more reliable and stable than the wi-fi connection, it is always preferable to stream 4k and above content through the ethernet connection. When do you think we will see TV manufacturers implementing gigabit ethernet ports? ... 14
