He was born in Glasgow on August 4, 1976. He began working as a dishwasher part-time when he was twelve in the same restaurant where his sister was a waitress. At the age of fifteen, he left school and began an apprenticeship in the kitchen at the Turnberry Hotel. He acknowledged that getting started as a chef was difficult and that he struggled with alcohol and drugs. Jock established the Orana Foundation later in life with the goal of conserving Australia's distinctive cultural heritage of traditional Indigenous food culture. He had previously appeared on programs including Nomad Chef, Restaurant Revolution, and Chef Exchange. He began judging for MasterChef Australia in 2019 and was named a judge for Junior MasterChef Australia in 2020. On May 1, 2023, around 2am, police discovered Jock at the Zagame's House hotel in Melbourne. He passed away naturally. He was married three times and had four kids overall. He had two daughters, Ava and Sophia, from his previous two marriages. Other than the fact that his first wife's name is Kelly, not much is known about his ex-wives. Lauren Fried and Jock first connected on Twitter in October 2014, and they later were married on January 1st, 2017. They have two kids together: Alfie, who was born in February 2018; and Isla, who will be delivered in October 2020. Alfie was born 1.2 kg underweight and two months early. He served as a guest chef on MasterChef for seasons six, ten, and eleven before joining the show as a host from series twelve to fifteen. Jock served as a judge for Junior MasterChef Australia's third season in 2020.
