They’re frustrated and losing motivation. You could try saying the following: - I know it can be frustrating at the start, but I think you’re doing really well. Keep going and you’ll get there. - Remember the last task you had to learn? It was also tough, but you got the hang of it after a couple of weeks and now you’re brilliant at it. (to get the hang of something is to start understanding how something works and to feel comfortable using or doing it) Shorter examples: - Hang in there – you’re doing great. (when we tell someone to hang in there, it’s like saying don’t give up) - Come on, you’ve got this! (you’ve got this is another way of saying you can do this) Scenario 2 A colleague has been asked to lead a very important project and they‘re having doubts about whether they can do it. (to have doubts about something means to be unsure about something) - Maybe you’re overthinking this – you did really well on the last project and that one was just as important. (to overthink something means to think too much about something ) - You’ve come really far in the last few months and I know you can do it. - You’ve earned this. There’s no reason why you can’t lead this project. - Everyone in our department has complete faith in you –you’ll do a great job! (to have complete faith in someone means to totally believe in someone) Scenario 3 A colleague is thinking about going for a promotion, but they’re not sure if they are good enough. (to go for a promotion is when you apply for a higher position within a company. If you get a promotion, you usually have more responsibility and earn a higher salary) - Why wouldn’t they give you a chance? You’re intelligent, hardworking and you know the company inside out. (to know something inside out means to know everything about it. - You’ll never know if you don’t try. - What do you have to lose? - Just go for it! Scenario 4 A colleague needs to make an important decision and they don’t know what to do. You want to support your colleague no matter what they decide. So you can say: - I’ll support you either way. - Whatever you decide, I’m 100% behind you. - You have my backing. (backing is another word for support) Find out more about me: Website: https://derekcallan.com/ Visit me on Social Media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/derekcallan.english/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/derekcallan.english/ Music credits: Intro music: Far Away by MK2 Background music: Honey and Milk by The 126ers
