Intercom's product and engineering team started as 4 people, today it is 250. Along that journey everything broke three times over, mistakes were made, lessons learned, and then newer and more expensive mistakes were found. It's tough to evolve from a small intuition-driven team designing primarily to scratch their own itch to an organization of 25 teams, building 3 product offerings, for over 30,000 customers, powering over $150M in revenue. This talk is primarily about the things that helped us stay on track, the principles we follow, the system we use to scale our organization, how we've adapted our product roadmapping over the years, changed how we process customer feedback, and all in all grown from a scrappy startup that hoped to one day have a few customers, into an enterprise software company changing the worlds of support, sales, and marketing. Oh and there'll be examples too! Des Traynor Des is the co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Intercom, a company on a mission to make internet business personal. Des launched Intercom in 2011 as the first to bring messaging for sales, marketing, and customer service to one platform – helping companies of all sizes grow faster by building personal relationships with customers. Before Intercom, Des was co-founder of Exceptional (now a part of Rackspace) and prior to that worked as a UX design consultant designing software for startups. Des is a renowned speaker, blogger, and author on product strategy, and frequently represents Intercom through speaking at international conferences. He’s based in Dublin.
