Discover the phenomenon known as asymmetrical sleep, where parts of an animal's brain are asleep while other areas remain active. -- Many animals need sleep. But all of the threats and demands animals face don’t just go away when it’s time to doze. That’s why a range of birds, mammals, and even humans experience some degree of asymmetrical sleep, where parts of the brain are asleep and other areas are more active. So, how does it work? Masako Tamaki explores how animals' brains remain vigilant even at their most vulnerable. Lesson by Masako Tamaki, directed by Biljana Labović. Animated by Iva Ćirić, designed by Manja Ćirić. After having two in-home invasions and always having the fear of my daughter getting injured, I found that id="hidden7" class="buttons"> I was sleeping with one ear open, so to speak, since 1999.
Now that my daughter is away at college and I'm semi-retired.
    I'm now sleeping a lot.

@jengomez6115منذ 3 سنوات This is probably the explanation behind my experience before. Years ago, I spent most of my lunch breaks taking naps. Nothing unusual, right? However, id="hidden8" class="buttons"> I noticed something weird. I was asleep but I could still hear and even follow the conversations around me. I knew I was asleep because I was dreaming at the same time. Like I would suddenly wake up and say “whoah! I just had a dream about this, etc”… people would give me this look that implied “of course you had a dream because you were asleep”. But I couldn’t explain to them that I was asleep and even dreaming but how come I know what they were talking about while I was sleeping. This video finally gave me the explanation that I’ve been looking for. For years I thought I was just hallucinating. ....وسعت 24

@Sabarokمنذ 3 سنوات I've always considered myself a light sleeper and easy to wake. One thing I always found strange was how often I would wake up a few minutes before id="hidden9" class="buttons"> getting woken up. About 2 years ago, I got woken up by a noise outside, but I still managed to wake up about a minute before that. That's when a realization hit me. I think part of my brain is always awake, processing sounds, but it's short term, so it's all forgotten. When I get startled awake, those memories are still there, and they get processed and it feels like I've been awake for a few minutes because I have a few minutes of memories being processed.
I think that counts as being awake and asleep at the same time.

@johnhaaland74منذ 2 سنوات I lived 50 yrs. with little sleep. I wondered why I never dreamed. I had other problems too and at one point I couldn't walk.
I went to a concert id="hidden11" class="buttons"> in Canada and didn't sleep the whole time. And when I got back, I went straight to work. 56 hrs. With no sleep.
Then I was diagnosed with Fybromyalgia and my life began at that point. With medication, I have finally begun to dream and feel rested. I'm not in constant pain for the first time and life is more bearable. It's amazing what sleep can do.

If baby cried or whimpered, or id="hidden15" class="buttons"> even made slight movement while i was holding her I would snap wide awake again. It didn't feel like I fell into deep sleep ever and if I slept I woke up every 30 min to one hour. I have about 1.5 terabytes of photos, id="hidden20" class="buttons"> videos & occasions stored in three copies on independent hard drives to protect their loss. Often I slip into clicking on photos & videos to enjoy immensely memories that I had almost forgotten. I have done so many things, traveled to so many places and met just wonderful, educated, brilliant people. @katiedyck5407منذ 3 سنوات I create elaborate stories in my head and usually continue them at night. Normally it’s the same story with a little variation. There have been times when my brain has worked so hard on keeping the story going that I don’t fall asleep properly and it feels like I was awake half the night so focused even though my brain tends to wander after I fall asleep.
I hate when it happens because then I wake in the night and night feels very long and tiresome.
