The overwhelming majority of plants have a mutually beneficial association with fungi in their roots. These mycorrhizal symbioses function like markets in which plants “purchase” mineral nutrients from fungi using sugars the plants produce in photosynthesis. This talk will cover the basic features of mycorrhizal symbioses and will emphasize the way that they affect plant
growth and distributions.
