Joined up Handwriting: How to Write in Cursive - the Letter s This video forms part of a series of demonstrations on how to write the letters of the alphabet in precursive and cursive form, supporting the development of joined up handwriting. I will teach each letter in a specific order, in groups of handwriting families, as research suggest this helps with fine motor memory. The handwriting family groups are: Curly Caterpillar Letters, Ladder Letters, One Armed Robot Letters and Zig Zag Monster Letters. The videos model how to write the letters of the alphabet based on the handwriting approach adopted by the school I work in - Letterjoin, https://www.letterjoin.co.uk/log-in.html . We will approach each letter of the alphabet in four stages: Stage 1 - Use pre-cursive script on plain paper, focusing on letter formation by looking at the starting and end points of the letter, as well as direction needed to form the letter. Stage 2 - Write pre-cursive letters on lined paper, addressing common mistakes and focussing on size and spacing. Download lined paper for this from Twinkl: https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-c-255209-lined-paper-no-borders-activity-pack And only once confident with Stage 1 and Stage 2... Stage 3 - Practise joining letters together from a "lead out" (flick) into the "lead in" of the following letter. Stage 4 - Practise the focus letter within a sentence, joining it to other letters of the alphabet. Opportunities here to experiment with style - for example, using slant or changing the size. I hope these videos help to build up to joined handwriting. Subscribe to my channel for further educational videos: /channel/UCeKPysYa4tGvN6SFhFE-F0Q
