It's easy to make and rich in pepper and jeera flavors, and is a no dal rasam. It's extremely soothing for the throat. It's also called as South Indian pepper soup or South Indian pepper jeera soup.  It's the best home remedy for fever, cold, sore throat. It is called as Pathiya Rasam in Tamil (பத்திய ரசம்). It also solves stomach related problems. This is the Rasam for digestion. As it's rich in pepper, jeera and curry leaves its surely an immunity boosting rasam recipe. It is a famous rasam recipe in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi & Hindi speaking states. It is one of the quick rasam recipe. This rasam is made in different ways in different houses and I follow this method. I have used little home made rasam powder too in this apart from freshly ground masala. You can also use store bought rasam powder or even sambar powder here. The slow roasting of the spices in ghee is very important. This helps in retaining the flavors and goodness intact. Further, I haven't added tomato here. If needed, you can add tomato, but then reduce the tamarind a bit. I am not adding garlic too. if needed, you can add while grinding. Generally it's not advisable to boil the rasam much. We have to only bring it to a boil. Only then flavors will be intact. So we must always keep in mind the same.
