@thehardpoint17973 years agoI'm a 21 year old guy who lost his mom at the age of 10. The song "White Woman's Instagram" had me crying uncontrollably in my car one day. Just the juxtaposition of a quirky, regular girl's feed contrasted with such intense heartbreak, it gave value to my situation. It gave me a realization that it's not just me, and that there's others who, despite whatever persona they may have, internalize and deal with just as horrible tragedy. I've never felt so touched by a song or special in it's entirety like this did, along with the rest of the tracks and scenes. ...404

@marshallklein52423 years agoI’m glad the special had as big of an impact on you as it did me. Wish I could see your reaction to some of the songs like White Woman’s Instagram, How the World Works, and All Eyes on Me, but I also appreciate you were able to have an intimate experience watching the special without thinking about people watching you watch it 😁 ...148
@
@damoon42463 years agoThis review is honestly gold. Your dissection of All Eyes On Me was fucking spot on and just everything you said was so perfectly worded. I'm glad Bo is getting the recognition he deserves and I'm glad you were able to connect to it in such a personal way. ...95

@nrgao3 years agoMake sure to watch Make Happy. It is the unofficial part 1 to this. Some of the later door imagery he uses is from that and the back half addresses alot of what happened in his life in this Make Happy special. 41

@de_la_Nae3 years agoI really appreciate that you specifically note Burnham's increased mania in the final section of All Eyes On Me. I think about his sobbing-laughter that briefly interrupts the lyrics... well, i think about it a lot. and what it is. and what it means. ...3

@Viccerz3 years agoThis special sent me through every single emotion that has ever existed in my brain, and I do not say it lightly when I say that it is a literal masterpiece and one of my favorite things I've ever watched. I feel it to be a visual essay on the human psyche and society as a whole more than just a mere comedy. I didn't think something like this was possible, much less by one guy in a room for a year. The most tortured artist create the greatest works; it's truly a double-edged sword Now to re-watch it for the 10th time ...78

@cjjohnson92383 years agoI feel like a proud Dad seeing everyone finally get to see Bo's creative ability, and I couldn't agree more with this entire review. Perfectly said. I hope this pushes the special to a new audience. Thank you for reviewing it. Bless you, Jon ...23
@
@matthewgilbert98812 years agoThis is probably the best overview of the special I have seen from anyone, either in reaction videos or from friends. One of the interesting aspects of the special is How it connects with different people in different ways. For Jon, it was the personal experience of panic attacks that connected most. My wife had a similar reaction, to the extent that she couldn’t watch it because it brought up too many of those feelings. For me, the feelings of depression and existential dread hit home most in “That funny feeling”. Anyway, very well thought out and well worded reaction. I really appreciate Jon’s use of the appropriate word for each occasion and situation as well. ...2

@angelachilders24023 years agoI’ve watched the special 6 times already and the album is streaming constantly. I have always been a huge fan of his work- from the OG days on YouTube and his mtv show - all his specials… he is truly an amazing artist. 11

@weeps4ourspecies2103 years agoI discovered your channel through your reaction to Welcome to the Internet. I’ve greatly enjoyed watching your discovery of both the special and Bo himself. @
@JesusOfPaign3 years ago“profound” is definitely the way to describe the effect it had on me. his special “what.” had a similar effect, but blended a lot more with like, the regular feeling a comedy special gives you. Then Make Happy swung a bit further, and gave me some good stand up vibes, but a lot more deeper and artistic, creative and thoughtful vibes. And then i was sad cuz i saw this pattern in his work, and he essentially quit after the special. I was sad because we’d never get something as good as i knew he could make. and then this came out. and i cannot overstate how much i love it. Comedically, musically, thoughtfully, everything. Bo is a comedian the same way Kanye is a rapper. Technically they are, but they’re so much more than that, as an artist. ...7

@lPanicSinisterl3 years agoI’ve been following Bo nearly since he started on YouTube since probably 2008-2009. He’s my favorite comedian and someone I always looked up to growing up. I honestly had one of the most sobering experiences of my life seeing one of my biggest Idols essential lose his mind on video. Like it’s hard to put into words. Bo has never been too afraid to put himself in his art with Songs like “Art is Dead” but this is so much more than that. I actually held off on watching Inside because I was afraid it was gonna send me into a spiral, and it kinda did. Inside had a profound effect on me and It’s got to be one of the best comedy specials ever made. ...1

@
@deweycox84093 years ago"Goodbye" cut me deep. Everything about it was masterful, especially with how he brought back the jokes from the (slightly more) light-hearted songs into something more personal. He sounded so... defeated yet honest; the veil of trying to look on the bright side has been used up over the long period of the lockdown and he - we - are forced to deal with this reality. I genuinely got scared when he grabbed the camera in "All Eyes on Me", juxtaposed with his shadow showing it's just him and the camera in the room. There was real anger and frustration there. It reminded me of his confession in "Can't Handle This" where he admitted his love-hate relationship with his audience. I completely agree with you on the acting: Only someone who has experienced such mania would have the understanding of the nuances that needed to be in there to make it feel believable. Great review. @nrgao3 years agoI really hope that you recorded your reaction, but i doubt you did with something this personal. I would love to have seen your reaction because I feel like it was so similar to mine. I was a musical, class clown type of kid that grew into one of the most socially anxious, over analytical people i know. Such a great, concise review that really drives home the impact of this special. ...1

@
@mosscarpetart3 years agoYESSSS the double meaning in the reaction/streaming bit is so clever, at first glance it's just a parody of certain aspects of online culture but - especially the reaction bit - is a representation of the cycle of overthinking, and a peeling back of the layers of your own perception. Bo is the first person to so directly tackle something that I think will be so present in the decades to come, that funny feeling. ...2

@LETTMusic3 years agoI always appreciate your thorough breakdowns. I just put out a chill trap remix of All Eyes On Me on my channel. It was also my favorite song off his special. I wanted to reimagine the song produced up a bit more to that industry standard. I feel he could honestly compete with the music industry outside the comedy realm if he wanted. Keep up your reactions man. ...

@nickholcomb22203 years agoBro watch Make Happy. Mostly a hilarious live performance, and you’ve already seen the very real finale. But something about watching inside really messes with you watching it afterwards. Little moments where I can’t tell what he’s feeling or if he’s joking when he tells the staff to turn the lights back down because “their faces are creeping him out”. @michaelsklar52153 years agoWhat a great review. Though he was harsh on Youtube reaction vids, you didn't let that cloud your judgment. I agree that "All Eyes on Me" is the absolute apex of the entire project. @AlarikMac213 years agoHey Jon, this comment is unrelated to this video but I just rewatched your reaction/review to logics no pressure album following his new single. In the video you mentioned that he was releasing a ton of music and albums in a short time span and wasn’t giving himself enough time to create a coherent project. Following the single and some comments he’s made, it seems that he was pushing so much music out to try and get out of his def jam deal which required he release a certain number of projects. Looks like he just wanted to get out of the deal as quick as possible and was just releasing anything and everything he could to get out of that deal. It looks like he still has one album requirement left which is what his upcoming album will fulfill so hopefully with album and any subsequent projects they will be more deliberate because he won’t be subject to a record label that he’s at odds with. Don’t know if you’ll see this but thought you may appreciate the possible insight/update ...
