Mall of Qatar has officially opened its doors to the public after it celebrated its soft opening on Saturday 10 Desember 2016. "Mall of Qatar is a brand new shopping concept that offers 'innovative shopping, top-notch recreation, and remarkable leisure options' across a 500,000sqm area," CEO Ahmed al-Mulla said. "As much as 99% of the mall is already leased, while 92% is currently in the fit-out phase. Mall of Qatar also opened more than 220 stores or 60% of the gross leasable area during the soft opening," he explained. At the heart of Mall of Qatar is the ‘Oasis’ – a 5,000sqm lush, green, landscaped entertainment arena featuring interactive dancing fountains and waterfalls. It is also home to the “world’s first resident troupe,” which offers mall-wide entertainment with 52 weeks of spectacular headline shows. ‘Oasis’ is covered by a 30m-high, 6,000sqm glass dome supported by four large structures of greenery, and also showcases ‘MoQ Live’, a free entertainment programme featuring a 360º revolving stage. It is also surrounded by a food court and dining areas with a 2,600 seating capacity. Mall of Qatar provides 500 retail shops, more than 100 food and beverage outlets, 30% of which are new to Qatar’s market, and over 80 key international brands available for the first time in Qatar, including international luxury and high street fashion, footwear, food, health and beauty, pharmacy, optics, electronics, and home furnishing brands. “The mall culture plays a large role in Middle Eastern, and especially GCC society. We are setting super-regional standards for shopping malls and bringing the concept of ‘retailtainment’ to life,” al-Mulla stressed. The mall also boasts of a 19-screen Megaplex with over 2,700 seats operated by Novo, inclusive of IMAX’s revolutionary laser projection and a 12 channel immersive sound system on the region’s largest screen, which is 28m wide by 15m high. The cinema also features the latest 4D projection technology screen, VIP screens, an eight-lane bowling alley, and in-theatre gourmet food services. Mall of Qatar sits beside the 5-star AlRayyan Hotel, which combines luxury, modern lifestyle, and wellness and is the first Curio-operated property in Qatar. It boasts of 201 rooms, five culinary diverse restaurants, including rooftop venues, all-day dining restaurant, chic lobby café, and a courtyard overlooking the hotel garden with indoor and outdoor seating.
