The Many Saints of Newark Ending Explained, The Many Saints of Newark ends pretty definitively *throat-slashing motion* for some characters. Are there enough left for another Sopranos prequel? In some of the spookiest words ever spoken on The Sopranos, the usually genial and optimistic Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri Jr. wonders aloud what being killed would be like. “You probably don’t even hear it when it happens, right?” Bobby asks his boss Tony Soprano as they glide down a lazy river in a dinghy. #themanysaintsofnewark #endingexplained #sorpanos 00:00 Intro 00:13 Dickie Dead? 01:49 Pinky Promise? 02:49 The Sopranos Ending Subscribe To Our Channel: /c/MoviesVibes Movies Vibes thousands of videos on latest hollywood news, Reviews, Top 10 lists, Origins, Tips, How To’s, Reviews, Commentary and more on Pop Culture, Celebrity, Movies, Music, TV, Film, Video Games, Politics, News, Comics, Superheroes. @tabassummasood6311منذ 3 سنوات Even though I'm an ardent Sopranos fan, I tried my level best to keep my expectations grounded prior to watching The Many Saints Of Newark. It's id="hidden1" class="buttons"> a good thing I did too, because anyone expecting the razor-sharp wit, emotional gutpunches or full-bodied storycraft of the series would be better served simply revisiting that.
Beyond the nostalgic thrills of seeing familiar sets and locations, Vera Farmiga's sensational turn as a younger Livia Soprano and Michael Gandolifini's brief (more on that shortly) but brilliant protrayal of the young Anthony Soprano, The Many Saints of Newark plays like an extended flashback sequence from the show. It's central character, Dickie Moltisante, isn't overly interesting or, frankly, well-written. Several other characters including the patriarch, Johnny Soprano, are under-utilized. And criminally, for all the talk of Michael Gandolifini's adolescent brilliance, his total screen time feels like it barely scrapes the fifteen minute mark. I also found the twist at the end to be particularly egregious and tacky, but I'll spare you the details of that particular letdown.
As a standalone film perhaps its biggest failing is that The Many Saints of Newark assumes that everyone watching it will be familiar with the source material. That is particularly ironic, as the lasting takeaway most fans will have coming out of this is that David Chase has taken the basic outline of a great follow-up to one of the most beloved series to ever grace a television screen, attempted to cram it into a two hour movie and come up short.

@theeditors7206منذ 3 سنوات The movie was great, the portrayal or Livia was wonderful, focusing how she felt about mental health medication and ultimate saw it as weakness, also shows´very few moments where she wants to be a good mother to Tony, also you can see the drama of Livia and her husband, and she looks VERY similar to Carmella. Dickie is basically a thinner and better dressed Tony, there are moments when Dickie is eating in his underwear that you can see Tony, there are scenes where you can se same mannerism of Dickie Moltisanti and adult Tony Soprano, even that smile, also that filtratious nature both share. Tony was brought up to be as Dickie, there are moments where even Johnny Boy doesn't get Tony or why he is so impulsive so the real influence on Tony is Dickie. And then there is Junior, you can see how everything makes much more sense as how Junior is and how he reacts, how he was always teased leading to the result of the older Junior and how he is, the pure jealousy of Junior towards everyone and everything, and also Junior´s reaction to the oral sex thing on The Sopranos make much more sense. For me the movie was great, it is not a Tony Soprano movie. It is a movie that explains and dwells again on the psychological aspect of both Tony and Dickie, how both feel they have to "atone" their sins. Fun fact, I never saw any drug problem that supposedly Dickie Moltisanti had, something that is brought up A LOT in The Sopranos, so maybe it was something that was found at the end. Wont say it so I dont spoil things, but on that part, you can even see young Tony knowing that his mother needs medication of some kind. Great movie, but it needs more prequels or maybe a limited 10 episode story. And also Silvio Dante, was great. ....وسعت 3

@unpluggedsongs3582منذ 3 سنوات I was a massive sopranos fan like most people, have watched the series over and over again from the first episode to the last I was very excited when I id="hidden3" class="buttons"> heard a movie was being made and could not wait for it to come out, the anticipation of this film was so high however upon watching this film I must say I was very let down. I believed the film was going to be more about Anthony soprano as a child coming up into the ranks how he became involved in his family‘s business and what made him the person he was, however the family aspect of Tony soprano was very under played and in the background. Michael Gandolfini although having very small scenes and short screen time does an amazing job playing his father as a young man I just really wish David Chase would have centered more on his family and himself. Again as a huge sopranos fan I was very let down by this film It did not have the same unique and amazing storyline that the series had, it almost felt other than the names like a cheap mobster film set in the 60s and 70s that was not written very well, it lags it’s boring and even when some thing happens it’s weak. The two standouts in this film was young Anthony soprano who did an amazing job and I don’t know the actresses name who played Tony sopranos mother but she nailed it!! not only did she have a similar look of the young Tony soprano‘s mom she sounded and acted exactly like her, she was amazing. At the end of the day this film failed because David Chase did not do his original brilliance of the series any justice, in this film. I would’ve preferred that this film was never made and we were left with the memories of the original show. ....وسعت 5

@waqarcpm4321منذ 3 سنوات My rating would be 2.5 stars if they'd allow it. I tried to temper my expectations, but this prequel to the epic Sopranos series seemed to be mostly id="hidden4" class="buttons"> going through the motions. The best performance was given by Michael Gandolfini, perhaps because he was more secure that, as James Gandolfini's son, he didn't have to overact to match his father's portrayal. Unfortunately his screen time was minimal compared to his uncle.
The original series had an immediacy and pacing that was compelling. David Chase created a milleu and peopled it to perfection. A prequel is frought with peril because he had to adhere to everything that happens in the future and still produce something compelling. Having Christopher crying as a baby whenever he's close to the young Tony is compelling, having a character stating something like 'you know what they say, babies close to birth remember their future', is not. Also the choice to have the dead adult Christopher narrate while adding little asides like 'even though he choked me to death' referring to Tony, was a little over the top. The same with Silvio's performance where the actor seemed more interested in hunching over and grimacing as if he were Rich Little doing Jimmy Cagny on the Ed Sullivan show.
Ray Liotta was a servicable Soprano patriarch, freed of any expectations, but I liked his other performance as the jailed brother much more, playing the fool so to speak, as the unfettered conscience for Dickie Moltisanti. A fool who wants Miles Davis records, but rejects Al Hirt as 'not jazz'. This is the kind of story telling that Chase spoiled us with for six seasons. Maybe if he had been given another season or two, or more, he could have taken his time, like Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. Trying to fit the seething Black turmoil of the 60's, along with racial animus, along with so many twisted familial relationship arcs into two hours is a thankless task.
Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., and Michela De Rossi are the three prime movers of this film, none of whom were constrained by portrayals in the original series, but their love triangle consisted of a time worn trope. While Michela brought a great deal of passion to her role, I was never completely sold by either Nivola or Odom as gangsters. Once again, maybe if this had been allowed more time, both characters might have flourished.
Vera Famiga always disappears into her roles as one of the finest actors alive today, maybe I missed the nuance, but I never got that level of menace that was always simmering beneath the surface in Nancy Marchand's portrayal of Livia.
I didn't regret watching this film. There was enough there to keep me involved, but it rarely equalled the same minute by minute viewing ectasy that the original series provided. I think the best tribute to David Chase is that The Many Saints of Newark has convinced me to watch the entire original series again.

@burqawaliaunty7664منذ 3 سنوات Fan of the series and really enjoyed this movie so I decided I would do my first review. If you are a fan and have not seen it please do so before reading id="hidden5" class="buttons"> a review. You will be so glad you did if you are really a fan and don't have expectations of kid who wants everything to be their way as if they were the ones who created, wrote and most likely went through hell for years to keep everyone entertained every week. This was a great movie and I appreciate that we got another look into the world of The Sopranos. Now to HBO and the everyone who wrote for the series and this movie please don't listen to bad reviews or rotten tomatoes and decide not to anything else beyond this. You gave us another tale which, I am sure, many real fans would enjoy to be told in a series. Think of it as the son becoming the father literally. Micheal did an excellent job portraying the role that his father made iconic and hopefully us fans will have the opportunity to see him portray the rise of Tony Soprano. At least give one season. This just left me wanting to know more. please with a big ol cherry on top. ....وسعت

@andrew_4747منذ 3 سنوات The movie is enjoyable, I like the twist at the end but the faults I have are: 1) it's not in the sopranos "style" in that the setting doesn't id="hidden6" class="buttons"> fit well with how the show was done, 2) they retconned some things like Silvio was supposed to be Tony's age since they were in a young crew together with Jackie Aprile and Ralph Cifaretto, 3) the early promo material made it look like it would be the story of young Tony Soprano so it set people's expectations wrong. 4) They didn't resolve Leslie Odom Jr.'s characters story in a meaningful way. ....وسعت 1

@royalsinside5031منذ 3 سنوات Firstly I'm stunned at all the really bad reviews from critics & fans. I think those people expected way too much. I watched just hoping it would id="hidden7" class="buttons"> be decent but ended up enjoying because of the acting. I thought John Magaro as Silvio was hilariously spot on & Vera Farmiga & Alessandro Nivola were both excellent. Michael Gandolfini really pulled off playing Tony considering the enormous pressure he had to feel. The downer was David Chase slamming the door shut yet again. The funeral scene at the end was when I told myself now it's gonna get really good.. I mean if it's a series that's a perfect place to end an episode but not a prequel. I think most of us also thought it was going to be a lot more about Tony which is why I needed at least a little more. And the clip in the credits showing McBrayer kinda moving up only makes sense if someone walks up & shoots him seeing Junior made his move knowing McBrayer would take the fall.. Again a good ending for an episode not a prequel. II think David Chase did it this way so if it is well received then the door is always open to do more.unfortunately we might have to wait another 14 years for it. ....وسعت 5

@justwatcher5657منذ 3 سنوات This Movie was really good I’ve seen the trailer for this movie quite a few times so I thought it looks alright so i went to watch it and yeah it was good and I didn’t know weather it would be my kind of movie but I did enjoy it and I understood what it was about and the storyline. So it’s about Tony Soprano when he is young and what made him into what he is and Thier is some good action in this movie and the occasional Sex scene and also this movie shows some racism too and I think that the racism in this movie kind of relates to this modern day world where racism is still a problem ( BLACK LIVES MATTER).
But yeah their are some really good actors/actresses in this movie and you have John Bernthal in this movie and he plays Tony Sopranos Father and he plays his role very good and you also have Micheal Gandolfini in this movie too who plays Tony Soprano and I have never heard of his actor before but he sure plays Tony Soprano Very Well.
So overall I would recommend this Movie even if you don’t think if this is your kind of movie or not I would still recommend seeing this movie because you might really enjoy it or not but just give it a watch because you never know.

@waqarmasood6252منذ 3 سنوات The 1980 movie "Gloria" was a way better mob movie than this, and that featured a middle-aged female and a Hispanic kid, but that was a real id="hidden9" class="buttons"> film.
This doesn't even look like a 1/2-way decent PC game. The color is bad for one thing. Maybe shoot with a Samsung Note or a new iPhone for better color next time? It would make a movie a lot better. The color was not good in this movie.
More than half the time in this movie I couldn't keep track of who was who and what exactly was going on. They can have cars and clothes from that period but that does not make a good movie. I do not think the actors fit for what they were hired to do, except Jr. Soprano. He seemed just like the Jr we saw in the series when they had the flashback scenes.
The moment when Tony's dad got out of prison he was picked up by Jr. On the way back to see Tony and the family the dad starts whining about what was going on in the neighborhood. I muted the movie.
Then Tony's dad starts whining some more once he steps foot into his house, and I muted the movie again. Then the movie goes to some stage play and I muted it again.
Then the movie goes back to Tony's house and the color of the movie is weird and odd. Why make a movie look so bad? Blue and hazy. Helped to ruin this movie. Can't they just film a movie with normal colors? Nowhere in the world is the color like this movie.
Now there is more whining with Dickie and his wife in this movie. I have no idea who played Dickie, but he looks like a high school kid in 2010 pretending to be Italian. It just does not work. And the whining.
They had a Mister Softie truck in the movie then bunch of high school kids threaten the adult male and throw him out of the truck. Sure okay. Ridiculous. Looks stupid to me. A bunch of children grab an adult male then threaten him, drive down the road, and give ice cream to kids. Lame.
Just saw a shooting in the movie. The blood was seen about one second after the shot. As realistic as the magic bullet from JFK. Now we are in the bedroom with a black couple. Nobody cares except Hillary Clinton and other race hustlers. But it helps make this a bad movie.
Now a shooting in the middle of the road. And is typical of a bad movie, right when one of the guys runs, his buddy yells for him, and of course the guy was shot. Worse than a college play. Really.
And same scene a VW van drives by, gets into a fender bender and bursts into flames. Sure okay.
Still a 1/2 hour to go in this mess. Maybe it's me that has the eye problems, and the color and blurriness is, okay? No, it is the movie.
And they have a scene of Jr after he fell. And his back hurts. I just do not care. Now we are back to the black actors. I have no idea who they are or what they are doing.
This movie is a disaster. Looks like pandering to race hustlers, pandering to people who like terrible color films, pandering to people who like to watch movie in a weird silly haze. Now at a beach. Clown show even screwed up the beach sky. The sky does not look like that.
I just leave a lot of this on mute because I just do not care about anyone in this movie.
Go watch "Gloria" from 1980 if you want an awesome mob movie. There they have mob guys and a Godfather who just sits and listens and never speaks.

@JoshyManTheGreatمنذ 3 سنوات You have to see this piece through the lens of illusion on grandeur. If Dickie had lived , maybe Tony would of suffered the same fate as Dickies father id="hidden10" class="buttons"> and mistress. Maybe if he had lived, Chrissy may have lived to. Basically, Tony doesnt know Dickie killed his father and mistress , so in his eyes Dickies a saint, literally. ....وسعت

@medfeedsnews2070منذ 3 سنوات This is more of a Black Live Matters film than a Sopranos movie (btw I am all about equality but why try to make a political statement out of it when this id="hidden11" class="buttons"> was supposed to be a movie explaining the beginnings of the DiMeo family) unless this film is the intro to a new show about black gangs (which would be an interesting idea on its own..no need to lean on The Sopranos) I don't understand what the hell happened.I absolutely love The Sopranos and was lucky enough to enjoy the show whilst it was still on air.so I was really looking forward to this film, however, I must say the writing was just lazy and the stories meaningless.Sil is basically a cartoon, Paulie is shown like 40 secs.Johnny Boy Soprano might as well not being in the film.Michael Gandolfini was great! but had like 15 minutes of screen time.Vera Farmiga? Excellent, no complaints there.Uncle Jun? Embarrassingly left in the background.Ray Liotta? Just horrible and cringe worthy.the dude Howard who basically is a nobody kills an associate, kills a made man, shoots at the DiMeo guys, walks around with a shotgun like Terminator and ends up moving to a white neighbourhood whilst loaded in money and succeeding in his criminal activities, no revenge.we get it.blacks have been oppressed and now they are rising up, how is this relevant to the story of Dickie Moltisanti and Tony? ..and I won't even mention how stupid and tacky the ending was.honestly? this was pretty much a waste of time.and I hate to say it. ....وسعت
