@Steve_6433 years ago Most interesting thing about Mac Jones is he finished a Masters Degree with a 4.0 GPA!!!! Don’t underestimate how much of a QB’s success is based on how fast they can process information 15

@braydenpodesta84613 years ago Hey Brett and EJ, huge fan and thanks for all the work! I was curious who you will be targeting in dynasty fantasy drafts this year heavily. Would be a great video after the draft!

@jdmbapastor51723 years ago Have fun watching DT Jonathan Marshall (Arkansas)! His tape was a big (and fun) surprise to me.
For a topic for the next pod, can you look at the top Relative Athletic Score of prospects for 2021 (say, those above 8.25) and identify who you think uses their athleticism properly on the field? ...

@simoncoolhand3 years ago Great pod as usual guys. Have to push back on something EJ said though. Historic numbers of a position drafted inside the first round is a bad indicator in my opinion, compared to grades of QB who make it into round 1 against grades of QB that fall out of round 1.
Jordan Love was the 4th QB taken in last years draft, where would he rank in this draft class? It was rightly said in this episode that Mac Jones was likely QB 4 or 5 and was higher graded than Tua who was taken at 5 and as QB2 in last years draft. There could be 5 players in this draft with higher grades on team boards than Tua had last year, those kind of players don't drop out of the top 10 very often.
The bookies were pricing up an over/under on Mac Jones draft slot and after having set the mark at 18.5, so would he get to the WFT at 19 or not, that was hammered down to over/under 8.5, so effectively, would he make it to the Broncos or not. Since the 49ers traded up to 3, he is now the favourite to be the third player drafted in this class. QB5 could be off the board around pick 8 or 9. In terms of prospect grades in comparison to previous years, that's not unexpected, this is a strong class.
The interesting prospect now becomes Kellen Mond, is he a better prospect than Jordan Love? If you are the Patriots, WFT or Bears and you haven't made a massive trade to move into the top 8 for one of the top 5, do you risk not picking Kellen Mond in the 15-20 range when your next pick is in the middle of the second round and there could be another two QB's taken before you draft again. Can Pace and Nagy come out of this draft without a young QB to sit behind Dalton for season and learn and do they risk that player is Kyle Trask if 7 QB's are off the board by pick 52.
When it comes to Davis Mills, don't hate too much on the Cousins comparison....EJ named players like Wilson, Brady, Romo.....didn't name Kirk Cousins was a 4th, Dak was a 4th rounder, so you do find players in the lower rounds who can become top 10 QB's in the league. To say the chances of hitting on a QB after early round 3 is extremely low doesn't recognise the fact that the miss rate on first round QB'is also very high.

@brandonfisher163 years ago Thoughts on Ian Book? I think his ceiling is a Case Keenum type high end backup. As a Vikings fan all I have to look forward to QB wise is trying to guess which fringe UDFA Spielman will take this year.

@goodgrooves53303 years ago Question I have been meaning to ask and interesting subject for discussion...
So listening to how well you guys understand this game and say for example other NFL podcasts I listen to, what separates a NFL coach, GM or other NFL professionals?
Would you guys be able to coach a team as well as that horrible Jets coach? Would you be able to build a team better then most GM’s?
I am interested to know exactly how the industry works and what type of knowledge separates really smart guys like you and the professionals.
    Love the podcasts!

  • @
@fchandlerxxx3 years ago Enjoyed! Especially your Mac Jones insights. I think you are spot on, except that I have been convinced by a host of gurus that he will go #3 to the 49ers. Def not a sleeper type, but you guys see to understand that well. I'll be bock. ...

@chuck4303 years ago HOT TAKE; Kellen Mond at #3 to SF
Guess this was recorded before the big trade

@mandelharvey34293 years ago Jerry rice made Steve young accurate. There was no receiver at new england last year that would make the Alabama scout team.

@malcolmbrown53313 years ago Re: Newman and going deep. Denver's OC, Shurmer, is another play caller that really likes to go deep. As for screens, he seems to be allergic to them. Maybe Newman's strong arm could make him a good candidate for Denver's offense and windy conditions. ...
  • @
@mandelharvey34293 years ago Newman, from your description seems to be the one to make a coach's career.
  • @
@Steve_6433 years ago This must of been recorded before the 49ers trade. I doubt Mond is a option for them now and Jimmy G already packing his bags 4
  • @
@vincenthardaway12173 years ago Trask games against LSU and Oklahoma has people doubting his ability. But he played the best against the past 2 national champions and Florida hasn't lost a game because of him since he became the starter. The kid his really slept on. ...
  • @
@originalnorseman4623 years ago Mond threads the needle and they call it luck. If you look at some of his sideline throws and back-of-the-endzone throws I won't call that luck. With good Coaching, the sky is the limit for Mond. Cousins will quietly be on the trading block by mid-season if he starts holding the ball AND TAKING SACKS with all the protection upgrades the Vikings got him. ... 2

@Aidenthescrumhalf3 years ago Anti horrible things example: Kyle Trask running a read option
  • @
@conquistadorito3 years ago Funny how you said that Newman is the anti Tom Brady and also the ultimate Bruce Arians QB when Brady is currently playing under Arians. Guess that must not be going well at all. 2
  • @
@mehtacotute3 years ago Trask in 3rd round will be best value pick of draft I think. Winston and trask 40 times within 1 second of each other. Just saying haha.
    **Trask - 4.98**
    Minshew - 4.97
    Haskins - 5.04
    Jimmy G - 4.97
    Foles - 5.14
    Winston - 4.97
    Brady - 5 27
    Favre - 6+?
    Ryan - 4.89
    Rivers - 5.08
    Mac - 4.79
Some of these guys are considered mobile QBs. Or decently so.
    I think he's a patriot in 2nd or 3rd if they don't trade up.

@amiwrongaboutsports3 years ago Maybe make a shirt that says progression isn’t linear.
  • @
@boosted2113 years ago Kellen mond will look good in a patriots jersey. 2
  • @
@Steve_6433 years ago I think Mond needs to rework his mechanics. He looks like Rogers coming out of Cal holding that football so high next to his helmet. Mond might have some potential if he lands in the right spot a good team like Washington or Pittsburgh that needs or is gonna need a starting QB. I think Mond is the one QB taken past the 1st round that can be a legitimate starter. He could be this years Dak Prescott ...
  • @
@DNeonLamp3 years ago 5 QBs WILL go in the 1st round, top 3 picks are all QB because in most drafts they are QB1, mid round will be competing to get Lance/Jones (or Fields if rumours of his slide are to be believed). That's from Panthers, Broncos, Patriots, Football Team and Bears. At least 2 are taking the QB there who would be QB2/3 in most drafts. Having 3 QB1s in the draft basically just adds another 2 to the top of the 3-4 O/U. I wouldn't even be surprised to see Mond be a late 1st from a team trading up back into the round. ...
  • @
@kentfreeman86743 years ago Just joined I like it 1 Justin Fields 2 Kyle Trasik 3 Trevor Lawrence 4 Mac Jones 5 Zack Willison 6 Mont 7 the SD qb
  • @
@Chris1234561413 years ago Crazy idea, the Falcons trade down accumulate more picks for this year and the future, and manage to snag Mond top of the third have him sit for two years at least so he can work on footwork and mechanics.
  • @
@mandelharvey34293 years ago Imagine mond throwing to Jones receivers. I think mond would have won the Heisman. Kap throwing into the wind at Green Bay was one of the most thrilling exhibitions ever. He directly purposely played Aaron Rodgers off the field. Beat the Packers by himself. Then ran like a scaled rhinoceros. ...
  • @
@inst4rmin.x4_onYT3 years ago Well, the Mond to SF speculation hasn't aged well lol.
Love me some Buechele btw! Is he a project? Obviously.. Honestly I believe though that Texas made the wrong call going with Ehlinger over him.. And it may have cost Herman his job... ...
  • @
@knowledgeuntamed91773 years ago 🤔 If you can give Joe Burrow WR Chase at 5, (Tackle is there Rd 2) and Tua WR Devonte Smith at 6. You giving em guys they have Championship chemistry with. That's the best move. Meaning Fitts and the Tackles fall some. 1
  • @
@jessepusatero55113 years ago I should've watched this before the draft because you sold me on Mac Jones, but I'm way happier with Trey Lance
  • @
@joehebert7893 years ago What's wrong with Newman getting selected by the Bills and then being dealt after two seasons for a much higher draft pick than was spent to acquire him? They already have success with this prospect profile.
  • @
@michigunsanta86803 years ago I had to check the date on this video, only two days old?!? 🤷‍♂️ “Mac Jones 2nd rd possibly bottom of the first”!?! You guys do realize everyone is saying San Fran is drafting him at 3 and all the experts say there’s no way he’d get by New England at 15 right? 😳 ... 1

@stephenmarquardt23903 years ago It’s funny, EJ goes on a rant about Mond’s consistency, or lack there of, and while trying to prove that Mond is consistent, he actually proves the point of people calling him inconsistent. By pointing to 15-20 throws or stretches during the games where he is consistent, proves that yes he has chunks or flashes of good football but they are just that, flashes and chunks of throws.
I watched every throw of Mond’s career because I was at A&M during the Sumlin and into the Jimbo era. People want to talk about his physical tools and his potential, he had 4 years of starting and made marginal almost unnoticeable improvements over that time. He’s good, not great. He doesn’t do anything particularly well (other than not turn the ball over). He doesn’t consistently make big plays or big throws. And for all the talk about how great his mechanics are, his accuracy per PFF and Sports Info Solutions are bottom of the draft class. If the mechanics are there, why isn’t the accuracy. For anyone thinking Mond is a potential diamond in the rough, trust me (I’ve watched all of his games) - he ain’t it.

@JJ-zr6fu3 years ago There's a good chance the outside the big 4 you will have more QBs with longer and more accomplished careers. If you're lucky 2 out of the big 4 will be starting in 5 years.

@markrea23 years ago If the Chicago Bears are unable to make a trade to move up in the draft from number 20., I really hope they land Kellen Mond..! 1
  • @
@ijamsum3 years ago We all forget in the NFL a QBs game is mental more than physical !
Tom Brady was a 6th round pick yet is the most winning QB in my Super Bowl memory !
Any 2nd string college QB who has not got to play should be scouted well , any quick coachable learner gets my interest for the draft !
Any starter that showed vast improvement should get attention !
Accuracy is a talent that must be based on good mechcanics !
Decent arm strength is a must for a good upside to occur !
Chasing a QB later in the 1st round can be costly moving up and the QBs that make it big are few indeed !
Do not fall for talent that people talk about , it rarely translates to the NFL !
A QB must learn how to win in the NFL , its very different than college with very tight coverage !

@hewontpass43943 years ago Kellen Mond to WFT ? Let him sit behind Fitzmagic if he's not good enough to start he can be the backup of the future for them

    6) lance
  • @
@JJ-zr6fu3 years ago Mond is so slow pre snap and if the first read isn't there post snap he is so slow. At least a third of his sacks were because he would hold the ball forever. He's got the talent but I've never seen him move to his second read. ... 1
  • @
@Speedster___3 years ago I’m mocking Lawrence Wilson Lance Jones order. Lance to 3 or Atlanta but he’s 3rd an off the board
  • @
@dezzdinnlast year I should clip this. The great takes of QB's in football " you take Russ Wilson off the Seahawks how many do they win, 6 maybe.." There's a lot of disconnect of understanding of those around football where its almost the rule these days to believe you just get a all world talent at QB and you're set. Thats never been how it works, its the environment and coaches understanding what works and helping the passing game get a rhythm, build confidence and trust. Its all a mental game. Mahomes would be solid without Reid but a high chance not great. Nothing is a vacuum ...
  • @
@kangolsublife59433 years ago Kellen Mond is taking someones job; Mac Jones will be fine because receivers love a catchable ball; Trask was exposed by Oklahoma, but is better than Trubisky, lol. 1
  • @
@ijamsum3 years ago The fact the QB position in the NFL is mental seems to escape the pundits !
Tom Brady was a 6th round pick tells us something !
He cannot move and run but wins the Super Bowl !
A later round pick that can learn and is very coachable is what you need to develop as a QB !
Most QBs in the NFL are not 1st round picks and this should tell us something also !
Washington will draft a sleeper QB to develop if there smart !
    ...
  • @
@keenanmccarty99253 years ago Mac Jones ain’t slept on by the nfl, he’s gonna go in the top 10 for sure
  • @
@DWilliams-ce8nb3 years ago Mac Jones might be QB #20 in an offense that runs their QB.
However, Mac Jones is QB #1 in a pocket passing offense. NO close seconds.
Pocket passing offenses won the Super Bowl AND the College National Championship in 2020. ...
  • @
@finkelsteinshitkid12993 years ago Mac Jones is way better than Tua, and will eventually be the most successful in the NFL out of this entire draft class. Trey Lance is potentially dangerous too, but I’d be worried about his durability.
  • @
@ijamsum3 years ago In the NFL the QB game is all mental , arm strength is not very important as learning how to win reading defenses and executing the plays on time is !
Tom Brady was a 6th round pick , he can win even with a weak arm !
Do not underestimate a low round draft pick down the road !
Look what the Vikings gave to there 4th round QB Kirk Cousins , he cannot win the big games at all !
I want a QB that can execute the plays and throw accurately and then build a team around him !
I do not want a super star , when did you last see a super bowl won by one super star player !
Its a team game , build a team that way !

@RustCole013 years ago I am pretty sure Sims has just embraced the idea of being a troll. I'll never trash a man that played big time college ball or NFL but man, Sims media career just seems like it is scripted for controversy. He gets views and mentions tho, so I guess that's something. ...

  • @
@rexstetson17173 years ago For the most part I love you guys, but you let yourselves get a little carried away, and even silly with all your Kyle Trask bashing. You both go on and on about is lack of straight line speed(the most irrelevant trait for a QB) and Brett even calls the guy a glacier. Here’s an important stat for you two to consider though. In 12 games in 2020, Trask was sacked 20 times, while Mr. 4.4 pro day, Justin Fields was sacked 21 times in just 8 games. Don’t lose sight of the fact that these guys are playing football, not running a track meet. ...
